Welcome to John O'Donoghue, a new member of the Clique research cluster.

John O'Donoghue joined the Clique team in UCD as a phd student on 5th January 2010 and will be working closely with Norkom on problems in anomaly detection in large networks. He will be supervised by Pádraig Cunningham.

Welcome to Martin Harrigan, a new member of the Clique research cluster.

Martin Harrigan joined the Clique team in UCD as a postdoctoral researcher on 5th January 2010, working on problems in visualisation. He will be supervised by Neil Hurley, Pádraig Cunningham and supported by Ulrik Brandes, Clique's external collaborator on visualisation.

Clique's Collaboration with Norkom was in the news recently with the initiation of a strategic research project between the two partners.

John Keane, Norkom's Director of Product Management and Engineering said: "At a time when the industry is just emerging from the impact of a global downturn, with reduced revenues, slashed budgets and increasing levels of fraud, Norkom is seeking to find a more intelligent way to protect financial institutions from the devastating impacts of fraud. Clique is looking for 2 Postdoctoral Researchers and several phd students for its research group based in UCD, Dublin. Clique will address research challenges in understanding of social and biological networks. The postdoctoral positions are relevant for phds in computer science, statistics, mathematics, HCI, bioscience and related disciplines. Senior Postdoctoral Position available with the Clique Research Cluster Group, based in UCD, Dublin

Clique is looking for a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher (SPD) for its Visualisation workpackage. The focus of this workpackage is on the development of fundamental algorithms, methods and interaction techniques required to visualise large and dynamic networks pocessing latent structures. The SPD will work with the academic staff in directing the research within the workpackage. In addition, the SPD will lead the day-to-day supervision of the researchers in the workpackage and will also assist in managing the interaction with the industrial partners in the project.

Social Network Analysis Group (SNA) is now an official Working Group of ERCIM

The Social Network Analysis (SNA) Group became an official working group of ERCIM in September 2009 after being unanimously approved by both Executive and Board of Directors. The SNA working group is now listed on the ERCIM Working Group Homepage with 29 initial members from 9 universities and 2 industry partners.

PhD student Gian Luca Negri joins the Clique project at UCD, Dublin

Welcome to Gian Luca Negri, a new member of the Clique research cluster.

Gian Luca joined the Clique project at CASL, Dublin on September 1st. Gian Luca has a Masters of Science in Bioinformatics obtained at the University of Milan-Bicocca and a Bachelor Degree in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Milan. During the Internship for Master, Gian Luca wrote a thesis named "A Data Mining application to evaluate similarity measures in protein structure prediction".

Clique to participate with Petra Ahrweiler's Innovation Research Unit's (IRU) investigation into communication structures

As its core component, the study suggests to use a web questionnaire methodology developed by one of IRU´s main collaborators to study communication stuctures of research networks. So far, IRU's collaboration partner MIT Engineering Systems Division have investigated the Boston Biotech Cluster using this methodology (see Communications Network Biotech link below). IRU is interested in applying this web questionnaire method to the Clique group.

Postdoctoral Researcher Jeffrey Chan joins Clique at DERI

Welcome to Jeffrey Chan, a new member of the Clique research cluster.

Jeffrey Chan joins the Clique project as a postdoctoral researcher. Jeffrey has a B. Eng in electrical engineering and a B. Sc (Honours) in computer science. His honours thesis was on Internet worm detection using a history based approach. In June 2009, Jeffrey passed his P.hD examination. His P.hD topic was on finding interesting subgraphs that evolve similarly in large, dynamic graphs. All his degrees were completed at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
